Minimum order value: the condition that quietly kills the discount

Updated 30 September 2026

A minimum order value is the spend below which an offer pays nothing. 35.4% of the offers in our database carry one. The median is Rs 1,500, which is easy to clear. The tail is not: one offer in ten requires more than Rs 150,000 before it applies.

The median is harmless, the tail is not

Half of all minimum order values sit at or below Rs 1,500. That is a normal basket and most people clear it without thinking. But the ninetieth percentile is Rs 150,000, and the largest we hold is Rs 7,500,000. Those are not offers for ordinary shopping, and they inflate the apparent generosity of a card if you count them.

A minimum turns a percentage into a worse percentage

An offer paying Rs 500 on a minimum spend of Rs 15,000 is 3.3% if you were going to spend Rs 15,000 anyway, and much less than that if the minimum pushed you into buying more than you needed. The honest way to read it is to compare the payout against what you would have spent without the offer.

Minimums interact badly with caps

The awkward case is a high minimum with a low cap: spend Rs 15,000 to earn a maximum of Rs 500. That is 3.3% at the exact minimum and falls with every rupee above it. Where both are published, check them together rather than separately.

Returns and cancellations usually claw it back

Where the terms address it, a cancelled or returned order normally reverses the discount, and a partial return is adjusted against the discount rather than the price. If you are likely to return part of an order, the effective value of the offer is lower than the published figure.

Figures on this page are computed from AskTula's offer database, 11,437 live offers read from published terms across 593 cards and 47 issuers, as read on 30 September 2026. They describe what issuers, merchants and card networks publish, not what any individual card will pay you.
